Woodland Experience
After building a new deck, these homeowners were puzzled over what was left: a narrow back yard. Considering their shady yard, I designed a soft, Woodland scheme. First, I created a curving pea gravel path to eliminate the "bowling alley" effect. Next, I combined Hostas, Ferns and Azaleas for the shady areas, with sun-lovers along the edges of the path: California Iris, Hardy Geraniums, Lamium, Ajuga, Foam flowers and Liriopes. Several Breath of Heaven shrubs now soften the edges of their deck. A striking Bloodgood Japanese Maple is a focal point. Voila! All set for Summer entertaining.
